THEN THERE IS THE THUNDERBOLT

Image

Colours fading

Before the sun

Takes its leave

Of blue skies

Spells trouble

Weather changing

Storm brewing

Birds make haste

To vanish

Colours fading

Aura changing

This time to mist

Red mist

Dominion is to passion

What a savage man

Is to love

The abused know

Such changes well

Unpredictable

Violent

No defence

Against the weather

No defence

Against the relentless

Fist

Then there is the thunder bolt

Still she says nothing

The incidental nothing

  1. A chilling and very effective metaphor, Mike. You are so right: the abused wait in constant fear, never knowing when the ‘weather’ of their abusers’ personalities will suddenly change, let alone why. We think we are in control of our lives, the environment, the world; we are not – and your poem shows that only too clearly. Great stuff.

    1. Thank you – we ran a PI business for years. One case was where a bloke got me to trace a woman who owed him a lot of money (or so he said). The guy was a liar. I found the woman concerned – his partner – at a refuge. He used to beat her up badly. I’d invested hours of time on the case yet never told him her address or charged him any fee – just told him to go forth and multiply. The case has stayed with me years.

      1. God, how dreadful: that poor, poor woman. And what a scary, manipulative bloke. Well done you, for telling the Narcissistic little shit to bugger off. Sometimes our instincts tell us that someone’s disappearance from our lives is worth any amount of money.

      2. I’m no paragon of virtue but some places no normal person goes………Also, most PI’s despite appalling press are jolly good blokes!

    1. Thanks for that Teela – from the comments you maybe seen that I once had cause to have dealings with a bastard as described in this piece. They give us chaps a bad name and that wouldn’t do. It was years ago but I can still see his face when I told him I knew where the person he sought was but there was no way I’d ever tell him. Hopefully he is long dead.

      1. Maybe one day I’ll out the fedora back on and go find out! Hope we both are right. Love to know what became of the lady – in her case I hope she’s happy with a regular bloke or whatever she wants.

  2. DONT YEW RITE POEY TREE ON MYE REEDER LIKE WOT YEW JUST DONE RITED! MY REEDER IS ONLY FOR BOOTYFUL ANGLES TWO RITE ON. PEEPLE LIKE SHURLEY BARMEE AND MEE. IF YEW RITE ON IT AGEN EYE WILL REPORT YEW TO THE POLEECE AND THEY WILL HIT YEW AND PUT YEW IN PRISUN WITH GAREE HOADLEE!!!!

Wow, those are a few powerful lines! And so true. This was amazing, confronting though it may be for some that find themselves in a situation of ever changing weather.
