THE TARMAC MORTUARY SLAB OF LIFE

ROAD KILL

The arrogant scavenger

Black and white plumage

Iridescent sheen

Emerald gloss tail

Lingers too long

With furry corpse quarry

And becomes the

Very thing it

Fed upon

Broken and flattened

Road kill

I pause to ponder

A rare recklessness

No doubt born of

Greed

For a bird usually

So very adroit

Unusual

Bizarre even

Jack of all trades

Hear this!

Beware the day

Accomplished predator

Becomes crumpled prey on the

Tarmac mortuary slab

Of life

‘One for sorrow……..’

  1. Reading this as I’m listening to your son’s music (you think he’d ever put your poetry to music, or am I just pushing it now?;) Great and powerful stuff as usual. Don’t know what more I could add to it.
