Tuesday night I ventured to Wembley Stadium in London to watch a band most people would compare to Marmite. Coldplay. You either love them or loathe them.

I for one have been a big fan since I was a kid. Along with many bands from very different genres Coldplay are probably the most prominent in terms of influencing me to start songwriting.

The warm up act was London Grammar, if you’ve never heard of them they are a trio group with very haunting ambient pop songs that I highly recommend.

A decade ago I saw Coldplay for the first time at my beloved Arsenal FC’s Emirate’s Stadium with the same friend who invited me to this particular gig. Difference between Tuesday’s concert and the first was I didn’t have to fill my feet with blood standing still for 4 hours not being able to see the band…

    1. Well the lad did say Coldplay is the equivalent of Marmite. You love them or hate them. I’ve been at a few gigs over the years and I’m older than you. ‘Tis a funny old world. Art for art sake, be it whatever genre. Love it or hate it, the choice is all ours. We own it, we live our lives with it. All the very best, Sir.

      1. Very true, Mike. I was a ‘Soul Boy’ in my youth, moving on to Zappa and Steeley Dan. later. English ‘stadium bands’ usually give me the shivers, with the exception of ELO. Jeff Lynne = Pure genius.
